Rog (Buttermilk421)7 SAUM load work
Took my 7 SAUM to the range for some seating depth testing.
I loaded up a series of loads with incremental seating depths.
This was the end result:
Previously, this load was right at 1/2 MOA. With a different seating depth, it's now about half that.

Rog (Buttermilk421)I sometimes (most of the time...) have a hard time with this seating depth business...
0.006" difference in seating depth change seems meaningless... I suspect the tolerances of the bullets vary by at least half that...
But somehow, it does seem to matter...

Shaggy357Very nice shooting.
I too have found adjusting OAL in minor increments to be a little tougher depending on bullets. Lots of my hunting loads started out with Speer or other soft nose bullets. It was easy to find .010" different in tip length. Plastic tips have helped, but I find more often that not, I measure length of my seating stem so I have original length and then adjust stem deeper and measure. Keeping any one loaded round can help return die adjustment exactly where you find the sweet spot. This only really works if your seating stem is contacting ogive and not tip of the bullet. Removing the stem and checking bullet fit helps confirms fitment before getting started with loading.
Hope this helps a little.....
Steve
