Shooting the xp yesterday found it shoots much better with rib removed. So since it's not going back on whats the best way for removing the studs? PS I plan to rebarrel it down the road but have over a K rounds of ammo to shoot up for now. Thanks

I bought a fireball a couple of years ago with the studs removed. The original owner said that he draw filed them flush with the barrel. He did a beautiful job. I cold blued the barrel with Brownell's liquid Oxpho-Blue. It looks like it came the factory that way-no trace of the original studs. Way above my skill level, but it can be done.

The studs are soldered into holes drilled in the barrel so if you could remove them you would still have holes in the barrel with no way to fill. About the only option as stated above is to grind them off and finish with a file/emery cloth to the barrel contour and reblue or cerakote of some kind. Rick

I was shooting at 130 yds With rib best I could get was 3" with several flyers out to 5" After removing the rib 1" with a occasional flyer out to 2"

I removed the rib on my Remington 600 and it was a definite improvement. ------------------------------ Good Shooting Makes Good Hunting NRA Patron Member, FTRA Member; Life Member SCI, NAHH, RMEF, and NSRPA; HHI Member #7108, Member CBA, NSSF "A man can never have too much red wine, too many good books, or too much ammunition."
