I am having a 300wsm Savage Striker rebarreled and worked on. Now for the muzzle brake, I am thinking about a Ross 5 port muzzle brake. The pistol will have a Leupold 2.5-8 handgun scope. So I am not worried about eye relief. Thoughts? --------------------------------- Veteran and NRA Life Member

I shot a .300 WSM in an XP with a Ross brake. I didn't have any issues running a rifle scope.

I have a 3 port Ross brake on my 7 SAUM XP. Very effective brake. Last I knew, Ross was only making 3 port versions. Regards, Rog (Buttermilk421)

Ross makes a effective brake, but it is soft. That is the only thing I don't like about them. I prefer using steel that is hardened for a brake. Ernie (xphunter) "The Un-Tactical" WY-SHOT 2022 June 20-22

Get your barrels and brakes and have them nitride. Parker trutech ---------------------- Never argue with an idiot: they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience! I am that idiot.

Da-Law-Dawg that's good to know. This will be a hunting pistol going out to 200-300 yards. I'm not thinking I will need the rifle scope on this one. Thanks for the info! --------------------------------- Veteran and NRA Life Member

Big fan of holland right here. They are heat treated so they don't erode. As a brake erodes it can change the harmonics of the gun. For those mid range big game hunts I like the leupold 1-5 rifle scope. Great light transmission...I can shoot with starlight. And longer eye relief. 5x is plenty to reach to 3-400 on big game.

Thanks Chris is there any time frame on how fast this would happen or is it just random? --------------------------------- Veteran and NRA Life Member

Is there any one Holland Brake that is better than others? --------------------------------- Veteran and NRA Life Member

The radial baffle Ernie (xphunter) "The Un-Tactical" WY-SHOT 2022 June 20-22

Lots of variables. Basically the more gasses that reach the brake the more wear.

I believe that the muzzle end will be 1" will this be okay with the Radial Baffle? --------------------------------- Veteran and NRA Life Member

You can back blend the holland. It will be larger than the barrel dia

Ross makes his brakes from the same type of steel used to make the barrel. Don't see how it being "soft" could be a real issue. Not too many are making a "hard" brake. I can only think of one. Regards, Rog (Buttermilk421)
