Did Remington ever issue a XP100 in a rimfire? I never heard of one... just wondering.... kent
|
![]() |
Don't believe that the factory ever did but Calfee modified more than a few. When they show up they ARE expensive.
|
Reportedly Remington made a few prototype XP-22R .22lr pistols that did not make into production. A few years ago I talked to a guy that said he had one but I never saw it. I'd like to have one. -------------------------------------------------- Southern Arizona FFL/SOT quiettimesports@gmail.com

I remember seeing a review of one in ST in the late 80s by Dick Metcalf. It was an XP-100 in .22RF, and I "think" I remember that it was a factory produced pistol. Probably pre-production before it was decided to not make the variant. . . “The 30-06 is the world's most over-rated big game cartridge" - Elmer Keith

None were ever produced, and they were going to offer a rear grip 22 pistol based off the 540 action but that never got off the ground either..had one of those hot little babes in my hand at the Shot Show back in the day and ordered 2 of them but never got squat...With the good actions available today it wouldn`t be hard to make one,,maybe a Stiller 40X clone in left/left.. ------------------------------ The Wind is your Friend,,,RIGHT... Remington made at least one .22lr XP. Friend of mine works for one of the major distributors here in OH and bought one directly from one of the guys at Remington that built it. He was told it was the only .22lr XP ever built. Don't know about that but he had it at a local silhouette match and many people got to handle it. Several offers in the $3K range but he wouldn't sell it. Didn't resemble the Fireball version. Looked like a factory 7BR but in rimfire. Definitely built by Remington right down to the marking on the barrel.

Calfee made his using the 40X rimfire bolt. Each gun was numbered and there are some shooters that actually knew the guns and owners by their number. I have handled a couple of them. Never had the cash to buy the few I have seen available. In the long run, I think the Dewschutz mid-grip pistols will shoot neck and neck with them all day long. As stated a 40X bolt was used (partially) The bolt was made up by joining the rear of a XP bolt with the front of the 40X bolt. It utilized the rear locking lugs of the 40X bolt and the action was milled for these is I believe how it was done. Very labor intensive (read expensive). The anschutz conversions offered by dewey do shoot lights out also. As a side note, when Rampro was still in business they were just bringing out a bolt action 22lr similar to their centerfire STP. I saw one of the first ones offered. Bret IHMSA #49266 PBRC match director IHMSA Washington State Director

Slightly off track but, Stiller made a .22 RF receiver, the Lonestar". They occasionly pop up on accurateshooter.com ---------------------- Never argue with an idiot: they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience! I am that idiot.

Was this available in an undesignated action to be able to make a handgun? You say they made one. Are they not making it anymore? Bret IHMSA #49266 PBRC match director IHMSA Washington State Director

No longer on their website. Sold as a receiver only so yes - undesignated. ---------------------- Never argue with an idiot: they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience! I am that idiot.

I would love to see photos of prototype! Layne Simpson did a review of the one from Remington one time. There was an interrupted bottom lug recess due to the rear hold down bolt which was different than Calfee does. I have a 40x rimfire that I have converted to a centergrip and made my own stock for the Remington short action. Perfect timing on the resurrection of this old thread......... I'm in the process of resurrecting an old project I started years ago: A 22LR XP. I'm about 80% done. Receiver and bolt mods done, timing worked out, fire control done and working. It. Ain't. Easy. All that is left is spinning up a barrel and it and the stock are on the shelf. I hope to have it done in a few weeks. I'll post some pics when done. SR

Not quite sure how to post pics on here. If anyone wants to see pictures I can be emailed at derekt30@yahoo.com or text 937-726-7420 Derek Regula

My father Dave Regula worked for the Accusport Corp in Bellefontaine, Ohio for 37yrs. He made many friends in the firearms industry while working for Acusport. My father acquired this pistol thru Tim McCormack, who at the time "1988" was the custom shop manager for Remington. I am my father showed this pistol off at the Logan County Fish and Game here in Ohio as he was a very active shooter. Derek Regula

Vudoo offers a R700 foot print action in 22lr with magazines that fit the aics pattern. I'm not aware of them selling any as pistols but in all likelihood you could get them to sell you an undesignated action for a pistol build... It also works with most all R700 triggers and accessories. mike ------------------------------ JUST SAY NO To Gun Bans, JOIN Gun Owners of America

Hi Derek, I knew your Dad back in the old Wammes days. He did bring this XP to several of our handgun matches at the Fish & Game. I grew up two houses from your Mom. Sorry your Dad is no longer with us. Great guy, always fun to be around. I spotted him once at Fish & Game when he was shooting tracers at our rams. Easy to spot!!!!! Say HI to your Mom. Will do Derek Regula

So where did the pictures of the rear grip XP 22 come from. Derek, your dad had the center grip version. Did Rem make a few rear grip 22 XPs?

The only 2 he has are the prototype center grip that was featured in handgun quarterly in 1988 and he has a rear grip xp-22r. I can get pictures. Text me at 937-726-7420 Derek Regula
