With the 284B Win. what kind of muzzle velocities can be expected from a 15” brl. with 130-175 gr bullets, and a consensus for a general rifling twist.
Also. Consensus of the favored hunting bullets for whitetail deer.
1-9 is what you want.
In a 17” at 4300 feet with a 162 I was 2555 fps
my favorite 7mm bullet for deer is a 140gr Ballistic Tip, have killed tons of deer using them in 7mm IHMSA, 7BR, 7-08, 284, 7WSM, 280, 7MM Rem mag and I'd be willing to bet that 99% have been one shot kills.

Ditto on what Glenn said -- I've also taken sheep, ibex, and other critters with the Nolser 140 gr. BT. Performs well on game - accurate to boot.
I used to have a 15" 284 Win Encore barrel. Barrel had a long throat. I was getting about 2550 FPS with B168VLDH's, and about 2700 fps with 140's if I remember correctly. I'll see if I can find my load notes later this evening.
I bought my XP in 284 Win from a fellow SPer. The barrel is 16" (17" including the muzzle break). I've killed 5 whitetail deer w/ the gun at ranges from 40 yards to 200 yards using a number of bullets: 120 gr Barnes TTSX (2930 fps), 140 gr NAB (2800 fps); 145 gr Speer Hot Core (2725 fps) and 150 gr NBT (2699 fps). All my loads use RL 17. I've been very pleased w/ the results. When I first got the gun, I loaded a few rounds w/ AA 4350 but velocity ran about 100 fps less than RL 17 loads. Accuracy runs from 1/2" to 3/4" at 100 yards. I've killed 2 deer w/ the 150 gr NBT and 1 each w/ the other bullets. At this point I'd say all have been effective. I haven't settled on "the best bullet" yet. I'd also like to try the 130 Speer flat base and spitzer bullets. I don't know what twist my barrel is.This message has been edited. Good luck and good hunting.
You might try some Long Range Accubond and ditto on the RL 17 vel should be 2500 + fps if you think you will stretch the yardage .
My 18" 284 Win that has a 1-9 twist Krieger runs the 162 A-Max/H-4831 at 2600 fps. I'm at 4500 feet elevation

THE Handgun Hunting Authority!
Be careful with long Range ABs. They are highly fragile. Work fine on perfect broadside shots, but extremely poor on angled shots. Poor penetration, never a complete pass thru.
The "Hitman" hit that nail on the head ! Shooting a .284 150 grain Accubond LR out of my HSP 7 saum at 200 yards led to a "Bang Flop" no deer to be found ???
I'm shooting an XP100 by Apache Machine. .284, 1-9 twist 15" barrel. I'm shooting
Berger 140 gun VLD Hunters. The last two trips to the range I got an average of 2620 fps from this load with H4831SC and new brass. I have taken three whitetail deer with it and all dropped within 50 yards or less from where they were hit. The farthest was 305 yds. All broadside, while standing in place.
I have worked up a load with the 140grn Accubonds but haven't put them through the Chrono yet. My 280 Encore and my 7-08 XP100 shoots the Accubonds very well.
I bought a Custom Shop Encore 284, 15" barrel when I decided to have the 284 XP made. I run a lot of different loads through the Encore and settled on the Berger load I'm shooting in my XP now. The Ballistic Tips shot as good but I didn't get the velocity from the BT's that I could from the Bergers.
Good luck on your venture. I'm like the 284 Win so well I'm going to have a custom rifle made in this caliber for hunting in a couple of places a pistol is not allowed to be shot.

Thanks for all of you for responding. The .284 Win. is going to take a little longer to put together do to getting a B F Arms pistol chambered in 32-20 that I am going to re barrel in 6.5 Grendel.
Ditto for the BF Arms pistol. Selling it to go back to the original plan to build an XP.
I’ll keep you posted on its progress.
P.S. I finally acquired dies for a Sako L461 Vixen SSP chambered in 6mmPPC, 14”, 1:12 Lother Walther barrel, rear grip. I’ve been pinning to shoot some chucks & yoats with it. Good thing I can hunt them all year here in Michigan.
Ditto on the woodchucks. Coyotes ate them all, and coyotes can only be hunted at night this time of year. To darned cold for that.
