Anybody shoot a 257 wby in a specialty pistol? Looking at building one with a 71/2 twist for Blackjack or Hammer bullets. Any other cartridges to consider?

The 25 Creedmoor will use a lot cheaper brass option for those Blackjack bullets and would probably be more accurate unless you have a special reamer made for the 257WM.

AND.... my .250 Sav. AI XP (by SSK) is deathly accurate and a real pleasure to shoot. I've taken groundhogs out to 500+ and deer at 4-450. Definitely not the power of a Weatherby, but an excellent. Going a little stronger would be a .257 Roberts AI. Both will be cheaper to shoot.

25 PRC

Not sure the Weatherby is going to give you much of anything over the smaller .25s. I am doing load development on a .257 Wby in a rifle chambered with the Blackjack reamer. I have a 26” barrel and I don’t get the speeds some of the guys are talking about but some of them are using 32” barrels to get the speed. My guess is you won’t have the barrel length to take advantage of the case capacity. I think the .25 SAUM would be the biggest I would go and it may be too big. Also would have to look at where the BC of the 131gr Ace makes up for the speed of lighter bullets at the speed you can push it from a short barrel.

Thanks for the replies, I have a 25-06 ai but was looking for a fast twist bbl for the blackjack or hammer bullets. Ernie, how do you like the 25 prc? What velocity do you get with the 131's?

3060-3168 fps is the range I have worked in so far.
It shoots great!



My first group with it was in the 1's and Dan about had a coronary.
I should have kept the target, but we were busy with other things...It was just a beautiful round hole.

Love my 25 Saum! Very accurate and easy to shoot. Even with the light carbon six barrel. The 131 Black Jacks did a number on a nice Bear this past August. Shot well at WyShot as well.

Maybe just get another bbl for the'06 ai?

I had the 257 Roberts and the 257 Roberts AI both in a 15” custom Encore.

Both shot very well.

I had a 257 Wby rifle also. To me that round just does not do much for me unless you are pushing it in a 26” barrel.
