Action screw lengths for McMillan center-grip stocks
Just got my McMillan center-grip stock and it appears the factory action screws (from the factory wood stock my XP100 came with) are either too long (the front screw) and too short (the rear screw). What length should I be looking for for each?

With my current action screws, the rear screw will not reach the aluminum block--it is about 1/8" too short. The front screw, by contrast, can be snugged down tight but the action will still rock back and forth. I suspect it is a bit long but I could be wrong about that.

Any tips for choosing the right action screws for these stocks?

I just buy long screws from fastenall.

I generally buy 2” screws for the front 1.5” for the rear. And cut to fit

What lengths do you typically end up with? Also, the front screw looks to be 1/4x20 and the rear 8-36. Any disadvantage to using an 8-32 for the rear screw?

Can use whatever rear screw thread you want.

I fit all different kinds of stocks. Never measured after the fact.

Only takes a few min to grind down screws.

On McMillan center grip stocks, you have to drill and tap an aluminum block bedded in the stock so you can use whatever you would like.

I have had no issue using 8-32 for the rear action screw on 2 of mine.
