Got the 28 Nosler out to the range for barrel break in on Saturday. Ran some starting loads with Re33 and Retumbo. Groups were decent running right around 5/8" cleaning between shots. Reloaded that brass (15 rounds) back up with Retumbo starting a grain more than the loads fired during break in. Went in .5 gr. increments in batches of five. ![]() Three shots at 100 yards. She's showing signs that she wants to shoot ![]() This load chrono'd at 2725 fps. Todays highest load of Retumbo grouped right at .600" with two shots going into the same hole at 2775 fps. Still zero signs of pressure so we will keep going from there. 2800 fps + with the 195 gr Berger should be no problem without running it too hard. ![]() Still working on figuring out the grip on this one. It's a bit more spunky than my 6.5-.284. It does seem to prefer a firm grip. Next time out I'll run some more Re33 through it and see what we get? -MikeThis message has been edited. What velocities were you getting with the Dakota? Sonny veteran USMC NRA life member NAHC life member

Sonny, I haven't had a 7mm Dakota. I know that Aaron (rickiesrevenge) has ran the 195's out of his Dakota. Maybe he will chime in here with an answer to that ![]() -Mike

Sonny, My load with Retumbo and 195s is in the mid 2700's. Didn't play with RL33 and the 195's yet but based on my loads with 180's I bet its faster.... Aaron

I'm gonna buy a football helmet for the MOA shoot.

I've got a 7mm Dakota that I've been prairie doggin' with several times. I've shot it with several 30-40 shot strings fired in a short time. Its got around 700 rounds on it now and it still shoots. It its used for hunting big game and shooting targets where you don't need to shoot rapid strings of fire I think it will go a long time. Aaron

It looks like a winner for sure!! 2800+ with 195 grainers should make for a very loooooooooooong distance shooter! ![]() Glenn ------------------------------ “Evil, unchecked, is the prelude to genocide. - Anonymous” ― Joel C. Rosenberg, The Auschwitz Escape

Nice, have not been home enough to crony the 7stw yet, but now I have a number to compare it to.
|
How's the recoil with at brake
|
Recoil is enough that you need to back off from the scope to the point that you don't have a full field of view. The gun comes back a good 4" at the shot. -Mike
|
What scope are you using
|
For now I have my Vortex PST FFP 4-16 with the MOAR reticle. I has a small window box. It will be getting replaced soon with a scope that has more on the top end. -Mike

Which will be?????????????????? Ernie (xphunter) "The Un-Tactical" WY-SHOT 2022 June 20-22

Ernie, I'm looking at the Burris XTR II 5-25 x 50, the Leupold MK4 8.5-25 x 50 and possibly the NF SHV 5-20 x 56. My son has the SHV 5-20 and it has been a winner so far on his XP. I just wish it had more on the top end. Any suggestions or opinion of these scopes or something else in their price range that I may be overlooking???? Thanks, -Mike

Personally, you can't go wrong with the Mk4, imho. I've been very impressed with its light gathering and non-critical eye relief. A lot of value for the $. mike ------------------------------ JUST SAY NO To Gun Bans, JOIN Gun Owners of America

The XTR-II 5-25 with the SCR MOA reticle would be my top choice of what you mentioned. Ernie (xphunter) "The Un-Tactical" WY-SHOT 2022 June 20-22

What are you going to go with? Ernie (xphunter) "The Un-Tactical" WY-SHOT 2022 June 20-22

Ernie, I'm still undecided at this point. ![]() It won't happen until I get back from my hunt in Texas. The Vortex will work fine for that ![]() -Mike
