Finally had time to put together my personal high country rig. For me wheelguns come first but this rides in my pack for when I can’t close the distance. 6.5-284 15.9” #2 contour. Mcmillan stock, hs style bolt release, fluted bolt, Holland brake. Leupold 1-5 vx5 illuminated cds. Egw HD base. Warren high country rings. ![]()

Very nice rig. That is a great color on the stock and barrel/action. I'm just curious. I have been looking at the 6.5x284 and the 6.5 SAUM. In your opinion is there an advantage in one or the other. Pro's , Con's. I have hundreds of .284 Brass and a Krieger 6.5 barrel stashed. Thanks for your input in advance. --------------------------------- : Don't make old people mad. I don’t think there would be a whole heck of a lot of difference. I think you are looking at 100-150fps difference. In magnum bolt faces more seem to be going 6.5prc

Thanks. I haven't found much info in the 6.5 SAUM. I think if I do a build, I will stay with the .473 bolt face. The action, bolt and trigger have been worked when a 7-08 barrel was installed right before I got this XP. I'm still looking at numbers. I have a great XP100R in .260 and with all of the info I can find using the same bullet, I won't get much more from the 6.5x284 using more powder from what I can find on Ammoguide. I used the .260 in Wyoming twice on Antelope, once hunting on the Hat Six Ranch with Ernie. I got a couple of good goats, with it and one on a hunt near Saratoga. Anywhere from 80 yds. to 405 yds. I guess it comes down to just wanting a new caliber and new pistol build. I don't look at it as needing. ![]() Again. great looking pistol. I got one of the McMillan stocks in Green/Black from one of the first buys by Ernie. I have yet to get an action build to install in it. Thanks for the info.
