What size are the pulled BMG bullets? I thought they were .510 already.

Gator, I have the Whisper big brother a 50 off of a 460 Weatherby case 2". From SSK in a Xp. I have a center grip. With the recoil I have no way would I want a rear grip. But I am doing 300gr bullets just under 3000fps. 600gr at 1800fps. I have shot everything from 300-900 bullets.

If you make a 350-450 would it be pointed, or like the Barnes 300gr almost round. A 350gr at 2500-2700fps with a lot better bullet shape would be great. Now even at close to 3000fps the 300gr Barnes drops like a rock..

I get 1 1/2"-2"@100yds groups all day.Pulled bullets do worse than say a Hornady Amax or any good match bullet. My hunting load 450 Barnes at 2100fps a reduced load will do under 1" sometimes.But I have a 4X scope so the little dots out at 100yds get fuzzy in the sun or heat.Plus eyes getting older.

Keep us posted like to see how this turns out. You going to do subsonic loads or supersoinc or both? I been thinking about having JD make be a 510 whisper but not for sure on the supersonic side of it. Thanks Wade

Man I used to love shooting long range API with a M-2 on single shot. You could always see hits for sure with them!

You'll have difficulty stabilizing pulled BMG anything with a 10 twist...Let em know if you need a die set..I have several.

Why?

Does it headspace on the turned part of the neck or the mouth of the case?

That doesn't seem like much for it to headspace on. But if it works.... I ran the numbers with a AMAX as slow as 800fps. Still showed them as being stable. Any those are pretty long bullets.

I used to fire the TCCI 750-grain solids in my SSK .50-70 Contender ($$$), they were stable at 950 fps. Those were some seriously long bullets....

You guys and your 500 OD bullets scare me.

I am just fine with my 308 and 284, thats plenty of muzzle energy for me. Don't got no dinos here to kill, that I know of.

DOD does things to the 50 cal projectiles to make their flight paths deviate.
The tighter you twist them the more stable they stay.
The last one I built for subsonic work, also a 16 inch barrel, shot milspec into cloverleafs @ 100yds and a single ragged hole with AMAX's. This cartridge's accuracy over distance is phenomenal, and sounds like a car door slam when fired through a can.

I was lucky enough to shoot the original .500 Whisper that JD made for a "special govt. agency". So far I've killed around 20 deer with it (when I can get him to bring it here). It was very quiet-like my .300 Whisper. Recoil was like a .410 shotgun. We used AMaxes. Can't remember a deer moving. Killed them out to 2-250. The "govt. agency" was able to get 100% hits on old Abram tank turrents at 1000 yd. They have a lot of these guns and love them, but don't promote them.
I wanted one, but JD talked me out of it due to $$$$$$$$$$$$$$. Got my .300 instead and never looked back. The big Whispers are fun, but $$ to shoot. I've killed deer with the .338 and .375 Wh. .338 gives the best performance (probably due to the longer bullets), but my .300 does a little better with the Lehigh bullets.

What twist is the 338 whisper? That's based on the BR case right?

Yes, BR case. Don't know twist. I'll be seeing JD soon and will ask.

I'm thinking really hard about building one in a rear grip i was thinking long action left handed single shot then running a 12 inch barrel on it or so. Who did you get your reamer from or if you're done with yours would you like to pass it on maybe

I have two reamers. One for the barrel and one for a sizing die. I got them from Pacific Tool and Die. Let me think on whether I am ready to let them go or not.
