.20's......... Login/Join

Got an itch. Swore I didn't want anymore wildcats, but......
The 20 Practical looks like a good one. Velocities I have seen talked about are right there with the 204, with a bit less powder, not that I am worried about a few grains.
I have an extra small bolt face XP action all ready except a barrel and a trigger. I don't want to open this one up, have others I can go that route with.
My thought were the 20 Practical, 16-18" barrel and a good brake with a rifle scope.
The 20 PPC or 20BR look interesting, but the amount of ammo loaded for a dog hunt takes a bit of the fun out of it, thus the plentiful 223 thoughts.

I and a couple of other shooting buddies are talking a lot about getting a dog hunt together for next year, just want to be prepared laugh
Should have stuff from at least 17 caliber to 475. May possibly be a .14 in there if they get it built.

I know there are a few sub caliber folks around here so I am all ears.
Jeff

20 vartarg

it has to be the best 20 cal. ever invented. no, it does not do 4000+fps, it does 3600fps+/- over a small charge of rel7 or h4198. 221 rem fireball brass is everywhere. a 223 case can be done into a 20vt case, it requires a bit, but it can be done.

http://www.saubier.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=1 here's a good place to start.

http://www.woodchuckden.com/blog.aspx buy the terrific twenties, todd kindler's loads are kinda hot, but for 20 cal its very good.

Both 20 Practical and 20 Vartarg are great. However my favorite is a 20 Tactical. My 22 inch OTT is a Death Ray and yes it will hit the 4000 mark, not that it is necessary, but it SURE is Funnnnnnnnnnnn devil I shoot it around 3600-3800 most of the time. It is way more accurate than I am. With the long barrel & a finger hooked over the barrel (in pistol configuration) you can watch the hit in the scope. Delightful. You won't go wrong with any of them. The twenties are amazing and if not a member already do join Saubier Ton of knowledge and a bunch of great guys. It and of COURSE SP are my most visited forums.

Safe shooting
Doug

I am in the process of having a 20VT built in an XP. I have shot 40xmike's and loved the little round so much I just had to have one. What sealed the deal what when I won a gift certificate for a krieger barrel at the IHMSA world championships last year. Big Grin
You don't need a brake with the VT. Killed a rockchuck at 500yards with Mikes so I know it will reach out there.
I guess you know where my vote is.

I've got a 20TAC on a 14" barrel. Its not very fast. Maybe just a slow barrel though. I LOVE my 20BR. I've got a pair of 20 Javelina Imp's that are pretty sweet. But they're not as easy as the 20VT.

I have both 20 Practical and Vartarg with 18in barrels on Strikers and they both shoot very good. The Practical is easy to load with 223 dies and 20 bushings and nothing else special required. 223 brass is economical and plentiful where as the 221 brass and 20 Vartarg dies is not as economical if that is a consideration, I had 221 brass, from loading the 221 and 17Fireball so I did both. I would not recommend the 17 as my barrel shot out in less than 1000 rounds it is no good in any wind and fowls fast. Not good for high round count when PD shooting. Jack

You shot out a 17 Fireball in 1000 rounds? Squirrel shooting?
